Project Overview

Woodside's Pluto LNG Project was one of the fastest developed liquefied natural gas project in the world, with first LNG delivered in May 2012. The Project processes gas from the Pluto and Xena gas fields, located about 190km north-west of Karratha in Western Australia, into LNG and condensate.

The $150 million offshore installation contract was awarded to Acergy inclusive of the installation of subsea manifolds, valve structures, umbilical’s, a mono-ethylene glycol injection line and pipeline stabilisation as well as the tie-in of flowlines in water depths of up to 850 metres.

MMA was contracted by Acergy to provide full marine support in respect of the offshore installation project.

Vessels Utilised

The MMA vessels utilised on this project were as follows:

  • Mermaid Guardian
  • Mermaid Endeavour
  • Mermaid Titan
  • Mermaid Carver
  • Mermaid Constructor

MMA also chartered in number of barges to support the project, including the:

  • Maritime Falcon
  • Mermaid Dawn

Achievements & Project Outcomes

MMA chartered in additional barges to satisfy the clients’ demands. This included the mobilisation of barges into Australia and compliance with quarantine and importation. The unique requirements of the project led to the need for substantial modification of the barges. MMA assisted the client and were involved in the design and engineering works of these modifications.

MMA was able to offer an integrated service with the assistance of the engineering services from slipway and further extend flexibility in the delivery of these services via the Dampier Supply Base wharf services in a very congested Dampier port. The planning phases of these services covered approximately 3 months and the work duration a further 3 months.
