Project Overview

In June 2020, MMA Offshore was awarded the Spool Transportation Spread via a Tug and Barge Solution by Technip FMC Australia for a major expansion project on the Northwest Shelf.

The project was located approximately 150km offshore in waters in excess of 1000m off the Pilbara coast.

MMA Offshore was contracted to provide and operate a total of 10 vessels, consisting of 330ft and 400ft barges, four tow-tugs and two infield support tugs with approximately a total of 160,000 manhours executed in the field without an LTI.

The key aspects of this campaign were the timely and safe delivery of sensitive spool pieces loaded on barges out of Henderson, Western Australia. This involved very close collaboration with installation vessels and teams in the field to optimise the use of the assets and ensure TechnipFMC the assurance of safe, efficient and reliable tug and barge operations.

Executed during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, whilst state and international border restrictions were in continuation, MMA successfully mobilised and demobilised over 200 offshore crew throughout the project, ensuring minimal schedule impact.

MMA has supported every tug and barge scope on the Northwest Shelf over the past 15 years. We are a trusted partner to oil and gas majors and are the industry leader in managing the complexities of marine spreads with multiple vessels/vessel owners. MMA’s experienced team have gained demonstrated experience from successfully managing and delivering complex projects, providing significant benefits to our clients.
