In mid-2013, Chevron awarded a contract variation to MMA for the transportation of equipment from Henderson to Barrow Island. This requirement was for larger and more complex barges than had previously been used by this part of the Project, as well as more powerful tugs. The scope involved creating operational plans, supervising modification of two 400ft barges in China, Batam and Singapore, and fitting one barge with a 400 tonne rail mounted crane in Henderson. These works required a project management team which totalled at one stage 10 dedicated personnel. These barges, along with ocean going tugs chartered and crewed by MMA, provide roll-on roll-off and lift-on lift-off cargo transportation.
